Maker Spotlight: Karen Fuhr
Karen makes hand-painted art and quotes on handpicked lake stones, stand alone quote stones as well as magnets.
Her cards are all letter pressed or screenprinted on quality paper with original designs.
How do you take your coffee (or tea!)?
What’s your favourite scent?
Hmm… lavender, lilacs, and apple blossoms in spring!
What inspires you to create?
Lots of things, but here are a few: nature, quiet time, especially a nature walk out at our little cottage.
How did you get started as a Maker?
I went to university for Fine Arts because of a love of drawing and lettering. I had many jobs in the food industry and in sales, I went to massage school, finished my BFA and then ran a bakery for 6 years. After we sold the business, I painted my first stone in the summer of 1998 and haven’t looked back. My card business started a few years later.
What has your most exciting experience as a Maker been so far?
The people you meet and the experience of doing what you love is a privilege ♡
What are some of the challenges you’ve overcome with your business?
I was lucky to have alot of business background, so I realized early that you have to get paid for what you do!
But balance in work/ home/ self-care was huge. When you work at home, you have to be disciplined… but you also have to close shop and have down time.
