Maker Spotlight: Adam Gualtieri

Through photography and stylized illustrations, Adam’s goal is to capture the tranquil beauty of Manitoba, where solitude and nature intertwine with hobby and pastime. From minimalist winter landscapes to hand-illustrated postcards of your favourite local coffee shop, Adam loves preserving the niche charm of this beautiful province.

How do you take your coffee (or tea!)?

Black coffee, all the way!

What’s your favourite scent?

Fraser fir (or any tree with needles)

What inspires you to create?

Nature and cozy places are my fuel.

How did you get started as a Maker?

I’ve been making things my whole life. The excitement behind the idea of capturing my favourite moments using my own tools hasn’t wavered.

What has your most exciting experience as a Maker been so far?

It’s pretty cool to know that the store I used to stop in at when visiting Manitoba is now selling my art. To think a tourist visiting the province or even a fellow Winnipegger shopping at the Forks would want to hang my art on their walls or send a loved one a postcard with my drawing on it is pretty special!

What are some of the challenges you’ve overcome with your business?

My biggest challenge is that what was once a hobby quickly became my career. So, I’ve found new ways as a maker to encourage growth and learning which can be seen through my digital illustrations and post cards.

What is one piece of advice would you give to new makers?

Draw inspiration from the things and people around you. And make whatever you want. Don’t get fixated on a sale. Be patient because your passion towards what you make is the ‘secret ingredient’ that no one else can replicate.
