Maker Spotlight: Theresa Morier

Theresa Morier runs Autumn and Lily Designs, making the dreamiest dreamcatchers and macrame wall hangings – using as much recycled material as possible, sourcing fabrics, yarn and notions from the thrift store. Theresa’s love for macrame has migrated into some of her dreamcatchers, a perfect mix and unique take on both forms of art.

How do you take your coffee (or tea!)?

Black and hot…or iced in the summer :)

What’s your favourite scent?

I love the smell of Eucalyptus and Lemongrass!

What inspires you to create?

Definitely the fabric store or thrift store, a certain colour of fabric or the texture of a yarn or even a necklace will excite me and get my creative juices flowing.

How did you get started as a Maker?

I actually started out with baby blankets and bandana bibs during one of my maternity leaves, after making a post of a dreamcatcher I made for a friend of mine, I received lots of interest and it kind of naturally took evolved into this :)

What has your most exciting experience as a Maker been so far?

My first order overseas! So cool to know that your work is being recognized in such far away places.

What are some of the challenges you’ve overcome with your business?

Finding time to do my craft has been a challenge, I have a full time job and 3 kids! But I’m not ready to give it up yet, I’m just pacing myself differently now.

What is one piece of advice would you give to new makers?

Just go for it. It may seem intimidating or you may think there’s no room for you but there always is! The makers community is very welcoming.
